My father was admitted to Massachusetts General Hospital after a fall, and they gave us 48 hours to find memory care. Boston Senior Advisor matched us with two communities in Brookline and one near Newton — all within our MassHealth Frail Elder Waiver budget. He moved in a few days later, conveniently close to his cardiologist at Brigham and Women's Hospital.

Common questions

Who licenses assisted living facilities in Boston?
Massachusetts has no standalone "license" for assisted living. Assisted Living Residences (ALRs) are certified by the Massachusetts Executive Office of Elder Affairs (EOEA) under M.G.L. Chapter 19D and 651 CMR 12.00, and may offer Level I (standard) or Level II (enhanced/Special Care Unit) certification. Nursing homes are separately licensed by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH), Division of Health Care Facility Licensure and Certification, under M.G.L. Chapter 111, Section 71. Families can verify a community's certification and inspection history at the Mass.gov DPH Health Care Facility search and the EOEA certified Assisted Living Residence list.
How does Medicaid help pay for care?
MassHealth's Frail Elder Waiver can cover personal care and supports at home or in some community settings for those who qualify, and Senior Care Options (SCO) — MassHealth's integrated Medicare-Medicaid managed care for 65+ — may also help, but neither generally covers ALR room & board. Our advisors help you understand eligibility, which you apply for through Mass.gov/MassHealth.
What cities/areas do you serve?
Boston, Cambridge, Somerville, Newton, Quincy, Brookline, Waltham, Medford, Malden, Framingham, Everett, Revere, Lynn, Woburn, and Braintree — across Suffolk, Middlesex, Norfolk, and Essex counties throughout Greater Boston.
How much does assisted living cost around Boston?
Standard assisted living in Greater Boston generally runs $5,800 to $8,200 a month, while memory care runs $7,200 to $10,000 a month. Costs vary by area — Back Bay, Beacon Hill, Brookline, Newton, and Cambridge skew highest; Dorchester, Mattapan, Everett, Malden, Lynn, and Revere run comparatively lower (still above the national average).
How fast can a parent move in?
Most non-urgent moves close in 7–14 days. Hospital discharges from Massachusetts General Hospital, Brigham and Women's Hospital, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, or Boston Medical Center can sometimes happen the same day.
Can an Aging Services Access Point or VA benefits help?
Ethos (the Aging Services Access Point, or ASAP, for Boston), Springwell (serving Newton, Brookline, Watertown, and Waltham), and MassOptions (1-800-243-4636) offer free statewide guidance and referral. Veterans can reach the VA Boston Healthcare System for benefits guidance, including Aid & Attendance.
Is my information shared with lots of companies?
No. We hand-match you with 1–3 relevant options. Your information stays with our local Boston team — we never resell it.
What does this service cost families?
Nothing — free for families. We're compensated by the receiving community only when a placement is made.
